Celebrating Agricultural Heritage: The Purul Paoki Festival in Manipur

The Purul (Hiimai) Paoki Festival in Manipur recently concluded, showcasing the region’s rich agricultural traditions. Held from May 4 to 6, the event brought together villagers and visitors for a vibrant celebration of farming practices. Organized by the Purul Youth and Students’ Organisation, the festival featured communal feasts, paddy sapling uprooting, and transplantation activities, emphasizing cooperation and community spirit. Chief guest Thaithuilung Pamei highlighted the importance of blending traditional wisdom with modern agricultural practices. The festival also included a traditional wrestling competition, adding to the festive atmosphere. This event not only celebrates agriculture but also reinforces shared values and inherited knowledge among the community.
