Most vegetables, fruits and staple food products registered price decreases on Bulgarian wholesale markets this week, according to the weekly bulletin of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets published here on Sunday. The market price index, which tracks wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, decreased by 2.56% to 2.436 points from 2.500 points a week earlier. Its base level of 1.000 points was set in 2005. Among vegetables, zucchini recorded the sharpest decrease, with prices down by 26.83% to EUR 0.84 per kg, followed by tomatoes, which fell by 21.96% to EUR 1.50 per kg. Cabbage prices decreased by 16.67% to EUR 0.52 per kg. Cucumbers were cheaper by 16.54%, trading at EUR 1.10 per kg. Red peppers declined by 7.77% to EUR 2.54 per kg, while green peppers fell by 16.60% to EUR 1.94 per kg. An increase was reported for green salad, up by 4.05% to EUR 0.77 per kg. Potatoes also rose in price during the week, increasing by 8.36% to EUR 0.70 per kg, as did mature onions, up by 6.78% to EUR 0.63 per kg, and carrots, whose price increased by 0.23% to EUR 0.87 per kg. In terms of fruit, the price of cherries decreased by 19.69% to EUR 2.30 per kg. A decline was also recorded for apples, down by 2.50% to EUR 1.25 per kg. Lemons became cheaper by 2.33% to EUR 2.51 per kg. Strawberries, meanwhile, increased in price by 13.36% and were sold at EUR 2.75 per kg. The price of white brined cow cheese decreased by 4.05% to EUR 5.97 per kg, while that of Vitosha-type yellow cheese fell by 2.77% to EUR 9.39 per kg. Yogurt with 3% or higher fat content was more expensive by 5.26% and traded at EUR 0.76 per 400-gramme container, while fresh milk was cheaper by 2.27% at EUR 1.12 per litre. The price of cow butter, sold in 125-gramme packs, decreased by 2.56% to EUR 1.37 per pack. Frozen chicken meat increased in price by 0.43% to EUR 3.70 per kg, and eggs size M decreased by 2.91% to EUR 0.20 per piece wholesale. The price of rice fell by 2.03% to EUR 1.64 per kg, while lentils were down by 1.70% to EUR 2.08 per kg. Mature beans increased in price by 0.93% to EUR 2.16 per kg. Type 500 flour rose by 4.17% to EUR 0.70 per kg. Cooking oil also became more expensive during the week, increasing by 3.04% to EUR 1.76 per litre. Sugar prices declined by 1.79% to EUR 0.88 per kg.
