ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office-6 has created a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the shooting of radio broadcaster Jay Lavapiez in Roxas City, Capiz, on Monday, June 22. “I have directed the creation of a Special Investigation Team to focus on the expeditious resolution of the case,” said PRO-6 Director Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño. The SIT is composed of members of the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) and the Roxas City Police Station (RCPS). Initial information said that two men on a motorcycle blocked the vehicle of Lavapiez on a street corner in Barangay Cagay at around 5:40 a.m. while he was on his way to Baskog Radyo where he is the station manager. One of the suspects fired at the car then fled. Four empty bullet shells were recovered in the area. Lavapiez was unhurt. Police Lt. Col. Ricardo B Jomuad Jr., CPPO acting director, said one of the angles investigators are looking at is the victim’s work as a member of the media. Lavapiez is the husband of India “Mamang India” Lavapiez, a controversial radio commentator. The couple are facing numerous cyber libel cases for their radio commentaries deemed below the belt. Police urged the public to call law enforcement for any information about the case.
