Argentina ‘s dressing room erupted in celebration after the reigning champions pulled off a stunning 3-2 comeback victory over Egypt to book their place in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals. Trailing 2-0 until the 67th minute, Argentina produced a remarkable late turnaround, scoring three goals in the final stages of the match to snatch victory and keep their title defence alive. The dramatic comeback triggered emotional scenes after the final whistle. Captain Lionel Messi was seen in tears of joy as players embraced each other on the pitch before taking the celebrations into the dressing room. Videos shared by the Argentina Football Association (AFA) showed the squad dancing, singing, waving their jerseys, and splashing water on one another as they celebrated one of the tournament’s most memorable victories. While his teammates celebrated wildly, Messi watched with a smile, visibly relieved after the tense encounter. Earlier in the match, Egypt stunned the defending champions by taking a first-half lead through Yasser Ibrahim, who headed home from a corner in the 15th minute. Argentina had an opportunity to equalise shortly afterwards, but Egypt goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir saved Messi’s penalty and went on to deny several other Argentine attempts before halftime. Egypt appeared to be in complete control when Mostafa Ziko doubled the lead in the 67th minute following a swift counterattack, putting the African side within touching distance of a famous victory. Argentina, however, mounted a sensational comeback. Cristian Romero pulled one back in the 79th minute with a header from Messi’s free-kick before Messi himself levelled the score four minutes later with a powerful strike from outside the box. With extra time looming, Enzo Fernandez completed the comeback deep into stoppage time, calmly slotting home the winner after capitalising on a loose ball inside the penalty area. The dramatic victory sends Argentina into the quarter-finals, where they will face Switzerland on July 8, while Egypt bow out after coming agonisingly close to one of the biggest upsets of the tournament.
