SASU serves three-month ultimatum for completion of PMGSY-III road

Kiphire, July 20 (MExN):The Seyochung Area Students' Union (SASU) has served a three-month ultimatum to the concerned department and executing agency for the completion of the long-pending PMGSY-III road project connecting Seyochung Town via New Monger, Old Monger and Seyochung Village.The ultimatum, addressed to the Commissioner & Secretary, Works & Housing Department, Government of Nagaland, demanded that the project be completed and the entire stretch made fully motorable within three months from the date of receipt of the letter.According to a press release issued by the SASU, the ultimatum follows prolonged delays in the execution of the project, which it said have caused hardship to residents of the Seyochung area for several years.The Union stated that the poor condition of the road and slow pace of construction have affected daily life, with repeated landslides and road blockages disrupting connectivity. It alleged that machinery and labourers were often not deployed to clear such obstructions, affecting students travelling to educational institutions, patients requiring urgent medical attention and the general public.Highlighting a recent incident, the SASU said a dumper truck carrying construction materials for the Old Monger Baptist Church was stranded at Seyochung Village for five days following a landslide.According to the Union, repeated attempts by villagers to contact the contractor and site in-charge for clearance of the blockage received no response.The memorandum submitted to the department stated that after waiting for six days, villagers, led by the Village Council, cleared the blocked road themselves and restored connectivity. The Union alleged that the incident reflected inaction on the part of the executing agency.The SASU maintained that despite repeated public appeals and the importance of the road to the socio-economic well-being of the area, progress on the project remained β€œhighly unsatisfactory.”It cautioned that failure to complete the project and make the stretch fully motorable...
