SASU serves three-month ultimatum for completion of PMGSY-III road

Kiphire, July 20 (MExN):The Seyochung Area Students’ Union (SASU) has served a three-month ultimatum to the concerned department and executing agency for the completion of the long-pending PMGSY-III road project connecting Seyochung Town via New Monger, Old Monger and Seyochung Village.The ultimatum, addressed to the Commissioner & Secretary, Works & Housing Department, Government of Nagaland, demanded that the project be completed and the entire stretch made fully motorable within three months from the date of receipt of the letter.According to a press release issued by the SASU, the ultimatum follows prolonged delays in the execution of the project, which it said have caused hardship to residents of the Seyochung area for several years.The Union stated that the poor condition of the road and slow pace of construction have affected daily life, with repeated landslides and road blockages disrupting connectivity. It alleged that machinery and labourers were often not deployed to clear such obstructions, affecting students travelling to educational institutions, patients requiring urgent medical attention and the general public.Highlighting a recent incident, the SASU said a dumper truck carrying construction materials for the Old Monger Baptist Church was stranded at Seyochung Village for five days following a landslide.According to the Union, repeated attempts by villagers to contact the contractor and site in-charge for clearance of the blockage received no response.The memorandum submitted to the department stated that after waiting for six days, villagers, led by the Village Council, cleared the blocked road themselves and restored connectivity. The Union alleged that the incident reflected inaction on the part of the executing agency.The SASU maintained that despite repeated public appeals and the importance of the road to the socio-economic well-being of the area, progress on the project remained “highly unsatisfactory.”It cautioned that failure to complete the project and make the stretch fully motorable within the stipulated period would leave the Union with no alternative but to initiate “appropriate democratic action” to safeguard the interests of the people.The Union also appealed for immediate intervention to ensure timely completion of the project in the larger interest of the people of the Seyochung area. Copies of the memorandum were endorsed to various officials, including the Engineer-in-Chief, Nagaland PWD; Chief Engineer, PWD (Roads & Bridges); Executive Engineer, Roads &Bridges Division, Kiphire; ADC Seyochung; and officials of the PMGSY Division, as well as the contractor. Old Monger Village Council sets 7-day deadline to clear landslidesKiphire, July 20 (MExN): The Old Monger Village Council has served a seven-day deadline to the contractor of the ongoing PMGSY-III road project to clear landslides and restore road connectivity along the stretch connecting Seyochung Town via New Monger, Old Monger and Seyochung Village.In a notice addressed to the contractor, M/s Vizheto Sumi, on July 17, the Village Council said the public had been facing “serious inconvenience and hardship” due to road blockages caused by landslides since last year.It stated that despite informing the concerned site in-charge on several occasions, no satisfactory action had been taken to restore safe and smooth road access.The Village Council accordingly directed the contractor to clear all landslides and restore the road to a safe and motorable condition within seven days from the date of the notice.
