Cake delivery van hits barriers on EDSA-Santolan flyover

A refrigerated van carrying cakes crashed into concrete and plastic barriers along the northbound lane of the EDSA-Santolan flyover in Quezon City early Tuesday morning, May 5, after reportedly experiencing brake failure. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the incident happened past 4 a.m. when the vehicle, which came from Laguna and was bound for Bulacan for delivery, struck three concrete barriers and two plastic barriers along the flyover approach after allegedly losing braking control. According to the driver, the van’s brakes malfunctioned after he swerved to avoid two large trucks along EDSA, preventing him from stopping in time. The impact damaged the front portion of the van and scattered debris on the roadway, including parts of the center island, briefly affecting traffic flow along the northbound lane. No injuries were reported in the incident, and the driver was confirmed safe. MMDA Emergency Response Team personnel immediately responded to clear debris and manage traffic in the area. By around 5:30 a.m., the damaged vehicle had been removed and the road was cleared, restoring normal traffic flow.
