Erika Santos undecided on national team duty

MANILA, Philippines — Erika Santos, the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour Most Valuable Player (MVP), has been tapped to join the new pool of the Alas Pilipinas women’s national volleyball team. Santos, who played a pivotal role in the Cignal Super Spikers’ finals appearance against the Creamline Cool Smashers in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference, expressed her deep gratitude for the call-up. “I am honored to be considered and be part of the pool. The feeling is really different when you are representing the Philippines. I am thankful for the opportunity,” she told The Manila Times. However, she is still undecided about whether to suit up or fully commit to the national team. “Right now, I am 50/50. It’s five out of ten,” she said shortly. If Santos agrees to join the national team, this will be her first time donning the flag colors. Last Thursday, Santos and Vanie Gandler found a new home with the Capital 1 Solar Spikers, now teaming up with 2025 first overall PVL draft pick Bella Belen. “Of course, I am already attached to my teammates [in Cignal], and this new beginning and fresh start are exciting. I am excited to help Capital 1 to reach their goals, and I am looking forward to being with the team.” The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) held an open talk to several UAAP players and PVL players that are invited to join Alas Pilipinas after the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games lineup declined to rejoin the national team. Notably, Alas team captain Jia De Guzman refused to suit up once more for Alas. During the volleyball meeting, the other invited players asked the media not to announce their names yet and politely declined an interview.
