Help name ’em all! Bucks Goat Centre launches Pokémon-themed appeal

Animal lovers are being invited to help name four adorable new ferrets after they arrived at a Buckinghamshire farm attraction. The Bucks Goat Centre, in Stoke Mandeville, has welcomed four young ferrets to its growing animal family and is now asking members of the public to suggest Pokémon-themed names for the playful newcomers. The four ferrets, consisting of three jills and one hob, recently arrived from Wales and have already settled into their new home, quickly winning over staff and visitors alike. The unusual naming theme was inspired by visitors Mac Gaisford, 32, and Maria Megally, 40, from Aldershot, Hampshire, who were the first people to meet the ferrets after arriving at the centre. The newly engaged couple had recently returned from Japan, where Mac proposed to Maria with Mount Fuji providing a stunning backdrop. During their visit to the farm, they suggested Pokémon as a fitting naming theme after developing a love for Pokémon Go during their trip. Now the Bucks Goat Centre is inviting the public to get involved by submitting their own Pokémon-inspired name ideas. Ruth Higgins, owner of The Bucks Goat Centre, said: “The ferrets have settled in brilliantly and already have lots of personality, so we wanted their names to be just as memorable. “When Mac and Maria suggested a Pokémon theme, we thought it was a fantastic idea. Pokémon has such a huge following across different generations and we loved the connection to their recent engagement in Japan. “We’re hoping lots of people will join in and send us their suggestions. The ferrets are incredibly friendly, playful and mischievous, so we’re looking for names that suit their characters perfectly.” The naming competition has already generated excitement on social media, with visitors putting forward a variety of Pokémon-inspired suggestions. The Bucks Goat Centre says the final names will be chosen by staff after considering all of the entries. Mac said: “We knew the ferrets were arriving and had to come and see them because we absolutely love ferrets. I’ve had several over the years and couldn’t wait to meet the new arrivals. “We got really into Pokémon Go while we were in Japan and thought it would be a fun theme that visitors could get involved with. We’re looking forward to coming back and seeing which names are chosen.” The centre, which is home to goats, alpacas, pigs, rabbits, poultry and a variety of other animals, regularly encourages visitors to get involved in life on the farm through events, experiences and interactive activities. Anyone wishing to suggest a name for the ferrets can do so via The Bucks Goat Centre’s Facebook page. The winning suggestions could soon become the official names of the centre’s newest residents.
