The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Penn State quarterback Drew Allar with the 76th overall pick Friday, adding depth at the position as the franchise continues to await a retirement decision from Aaron Rodgers. Allar joins a Pittsburgh quarterback room that includes Rodgers, Mason Rudolph and Will Howard. The 42-year-old Rodgers remains the presumptive starter, but has yet to commit to playing in 2026. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Allar enters the NFL after a distinguished college career cut short by a broken ankle against Northwestern in October. Before the injury, he had thrown for 1,100 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 64.8% of his passes across six games. Allar had entered the 2025 season as one of the nation’s most highly regarded quarterbacks following a strong 2024 campaign in which he threw for 3,347 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions, leading Penn State to the College Football Playoff semifinals before falling to Notre Dame. His 2023 season was equally productive, as he led the Big Ten with 25 touchdown passes against just two interceptions while passing for 2,631 yards. Allar departs Penn State as the program’s all-time leader in completion percentage among full-time starters at 63.2%, finishing third in program history in touchdown passes with 61 and fourth in passing yards with 7,402.
